Chihuly & Cheese Grits

Oklahoma City had way more than I expected.  We were walking distance from the hip "Bricktown" with great food, a movie theater, and ice cream mixed on a marble slab.  They had a botanical garden complete with thousands of colored lights at night. Their theater is only 8 years old after the renovation and is quite beautiful with TV's and couches in the backstage dressing rooms (was great for watching some weekend football).

But my favorites were definitely the Museum of Art that was housing the glass exhibit by Chihuly.  WOW!  This guy is amazing.  I saw his work at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, but had no idea it was him.  If you are ever near any of his work, you MUST drop by and see it.  This picture above is one of the many whimsical and beautiful works he created.

My other favorite was the Oklahoma City Memorial commemorating the OK bombing in 1995.  We were lucky enough to have a personal tour of the outdoor site by the designer, Tori.  She and her husband managed to incorporate peace into a site remembering such a violent and tragic event.  You MUST see this if you are every near as well.

This morning, I got to have breakfast with a mother of one of Kara & I's friend.  She was sweet enough to treat me to the best shrimp cheese grits I have ever eaten....WOW!!!!!!  What a great way to close out OK City.

  1. My first thought at the photo was: Mhhh delicious! ;)
The work looks fantastically! You can conjure such lovely things out of glass. And it tells so many patience and intuition!
And at this work of art the love of the detail is quite clearly visible. It looks really magnificent. A wonderful color game!
Your second station in the Oklahoma city center memorial also sounds extremely exciting and also emotional. It is wonderful that the designer made it, to take a piece of peace and quiet to the grave and tragic event - so that the look depresses but doesn't back-breaking!
Thanks for the pictures and the impressions!

  3. Hi Kevin, thanks for giving a great review of my old hometown. The art museum started with the glass exhibit as just a six month stay, but then purchased it so it will always be there. It really is amazing. I am glad my old home town treated you guys so well. Hope the tour is going well.

  4. Hey Kevin,
we want to see some snow! Isn´t it snowing were you are??? ;)
Julia was in Hamburg last weekend and wanted to see some snow here but it was just warm and rainy.... :(
On saturday we saw the show with some others, what startet with a "four person visit" from members of the ANTONforum ended with a "44 people crowd" that rocked the Flora! :)
We sat in the first rows and had a blast!!!
(Although Anton wasn´t playing because he´s injured, Armin did and he was great!)

We also had kind of our "2. Inofficial-Kevin-Massey-Fanmeeting", but I guess you´ll have to wait a few more days/weeks before you get to see the results....... :P

    I hope your doing fine!
    Many greetings from Hamburg,
