Well, these three places were my home for the past week, BUT the house in this picture was built by the REAL Almanzo for the REAL Laura. We were close enough to Mansfield, MO to make a morning trip over to this gem. Having lived with this character and the Little House story for so long now, I almost cried when I saw Pa's original fiddle in the museum right next door to this uniquely and lovingly designed house. My favorite room was the kitchen where each counter was about waist level, the perfect height for his 4'11'' bride, Laura. All of the cabinets were well within her reach. When they finally got electricity (a luxury piped in by their daughter Rose), Almanzo carved out a perfect cubby for the refrigerator...and I am talking PERFECT. There was nary an inch of space between the sides of the fridge and the wooden walls of the cubby. My father would have been impressed! As you can see, it was a beautiful fall day. Looking out over their land, my heart yearned to own something as peaceful one day.This was our first and only split week, playing two towns in one week. While it does not compare to the one-nighters I did on tour in Europe with Grease!, it still is difficult to travel and perform on the same day. Both cities gave us some great crowds. I have to say I was a little partial to Little Rock because of our stay in the fabulous Peabody Hotel (complete with live ducks in the fountain) and a restaurant/bar called the Flying Saucer which served not one but TWO types of gluten free beer. It is once in a blue moon that this happens, so I made sure to taste them before I left. :)
Our presenter, Larry, is taking care of us for the next 2 or 3 cities. He's a good guy, so I'm looking forward to bringing the show to each of his venues.
One last picture: Every picture that I have seen of Almanzo and Laura has them standing at least 3 feet apart from each other, and awkwardly looking at the camera. So, Kara and I tried to recreate history in front of "our" house :)

This still exists the old fiddle on Pa really, if I had not expected now at all, really interesting.
The "postpositive" picture looks very witty, luckily today's pictures are a little more personal.

ReplyDeleteUff, so many and primarily beautiful news. Only problem that I have this time: for me it is very hard again to understand everything. My translation program tells only nonsense and confuses me. ;) Because of this I rely now on the words which I have learned to schooldays and which have remained in the memory. This isn't much! ;)
Because of this I write not quite so much this time.
I can imagine what this must have been kind of wonderful and impressive feeling in the house of Almanzo and Laura. After all you employing with these persons already so long. You embody them on the stage every evening and feel into the persons. You surely have a completely different/hearty connection to them. And surely it becomes a quite special memory remain for you, that you were allowed to see and to experience the original house. This pleases me!

Actually I don't care about the origin and mother tongue of every single member.
I think we got together here to pursue and accompany the way of the musician Kevin Massey.
I know that my English isn't the best one. And I also would be glad to be safer and more instructed in it. But actually many followers come from Germany and unfortunately cannot express everything as they would like to do it.
I feel a little attacked by your statement. Maybe you don't mean it badly at all. Despite everything, I would love everybody to take into account here and also appreciate that many different people meet here. Some people can speak perfect English, others only Basic English. But one thing nevertheless connects us everyone here - Sassy! ;)
And language deficits should become a minor matter there!

ReplyDeleteYou are right. I love that everyone who posts here speaks from the heart in any tongue they choose. And speaking in another language is no easy task! As you know, my German was quite broken indeed...in fact, kaput at times :)
I'm sure Mixonitup did not mean to offend. In fact, in a way I agree because when I see or read English that has a little foreign "flair", I can hear that person's voice very clearly...and it warms my heart because I love and miss my foreign friends dearly! One of my favorite parts of Tarzan was hearing the cast and fans (from all over the world) speak English with their different accents and personalities. I am spoiled to have so many people speaking my native langauge.
So, post away in whatever language you like! :)

ReplyDeleteIt's good to read,that everything is working out for you so well.And about the "Communication-Case"...for me the most important thing is,that people talk to each other somehow,no matter in which language.As long as there is any understanding,correct spelling or speaking isn't important at all.
None of us from Germany can speak your language 100%,but we always find a way to communicate and keep in touch with you.
And I think,that's just fantastic!

ReplyDeleteThe whole is a little bit unpleasant for me now. Perhaps I have a little overreacted yesterday.
But it is a big challenge every time for me to understand your Postings and primarily to respond to it. It is so hard to find the correct words if you don't master the language. And by the "Broken English" I have felt a little attacked - sorry! ;)
It was important for me to have said some words to this statement and now is everything good again - I think. :)
I furthermore practice at my English and hope to make not too many mistakes.
Actually I am a person who can laugh about her bad English knowledge and primarily about the bad discussion. But at your Blog I am ambitious and try to write really decently - so that, yesterday, I couldn`t laugh about it.
Now I stop with the many words.
