3 Stops, Constant Snow

It is definitely winter!  Our first stop after the break was in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and it gave us the coldest temperatures yet on tour.  This was unfortunate because Fayetteville was a great small town with a college campus attached (similar to Tempe).  But there was a gluten-free pizza place!  These are rare finds, so congrats AR!  I was also able to see a friend of mine that I met this past summer in NYC.  I was his "artistic" mentor for a couple weeks.  It was very serendipitous to be able to catch up with him again and hear the new things in his life.  Otherwise, much of my time in Fayetteville was spent in the theater or the hotel....too cold!!!!

Believe it or not, Omaha was much warmer. Funny enough, even though it was warmer, I ended up getting really sick for the first true time on tour.  It was a cold that has been circulating our cast for a week or so.  I almost lost my voice.  But, somehow I was able to pull it together (lots of steam and mucinex!) and didn't miss a show.  I have to admit, I was a little loopy for some of the shows.  It felt like I had a couple beers before the show...but I was clean! Ha.  One day I was walking to the post office which happened to be much farther than I anticipated.  On my way back, I decided to take a different route and came across the building pictured above.  I had nothing to do for a while, so I decided to take a peak inside.  And take a look at what I found below!

It turns out this was an old Union Pacific train station from back when trains were the major source of transportation.  It is now a museum about the history of Omaha and a home to various other permanent and traveling exhibits.  The city recently refurbished the lobby to it's former glory.  It is a amazing how this country was settled and how certain cities made it and other ones passed by the wayside.  I must have spent about 3 hours looking around.  A must see!  We also took a trip to the Omaha Zoo which has quite a collection for a midwest town.

And now we are at our last stop (Madison, WI) before the "international" portion of our tour in Toronto.  And I have just added another first to my career in the business.  I had to call out because of an injury today.  This is also the first time since I got cast in Little House back in 2008 that anyone else has played the role of Almanzo!  Luckily, we have great understudies in our company.  I'm sure Will, one of my understudies, will knock it out of the park today.  Having been an understudy in other shows before, I know how exciting it is to finally get to go on.

So, here's hoping the next memories won't be sickness or injuries :)  It makes us grateful for the times we are healthy.

  1. Hi Kevin,

I hope you and your voice are feeling better.

In Germany it is sometimes very cold, but it is winter ;), today we had a snatch of sunshine, which I have already missed.

I`m happy for you, that you met an old friend after al long time, and that you hear a lot of new things :).

The buildings that you have photographed really looks impressive, it's amazing what you sometimes discovers through detours ;).

Good luck for the next time and stay healthy.

    Best wishes Anke

  2. Hello Kevin!
Here it's cold too, the last time it was that cold was in 1997 I think. But sometimes I like it, it's a nice, snowy winter and no rain ;)
I hope like Anke too, that you voice is doing better and that you will stay healthy now. I have much respect, that you played the shows, although you were not really healthy.

  3. Hey Kevin.
I hope you feel better again? How has the show been with Will as Almanzo? I can imagine that it was a quite exciting day for him! :) Have you watched the show?
Have you incurred your injury during a show or rehearsals?
I heard that the most injuries in your job happen in the leisure time! Maybe a falsity?! ;)
Here in Germany it is also very cold. We have white landscapes since the middle of December throughout -- it snows again and again. These are lovely moments if I go for a walk with my dog by the winter-forest. It is wonderful if the children sledge or build snowmen. But it has also many shady sides. Danger in the traffic and much more. And is simple enough sometime. It gets so slowly time for the spring! :)
I wish you a good start in the new week with much heart warmth and glitter snow! :))
    All the best,
    Julia

  4. Hi Kevin!

Has been such a long time ago writing to you, shame on me.
    Hope everything is fine!
Your photo of the train station is very impressive. It reminds me a little bit of Central Station in N.Y.
Talking about the actual weathersituation in Germany,it's really tiring.
The last couple of weeks we had tons of snow, compared to the last years it was unusual and therefore the municipality couldn't handle clearing the streets and griting the sidewalks properly.
Especially elderly people have problems getting their food from the markets.
Fortunately at the moment temperatures are rising and hopefully the snow is melting now.
    However,have a nice remaining weekend,
take care and hope hearing from you soon again.:-)

    Greetings from Hamburg,

  5. Dear Kevin,
    I hope you´re doing better!!!
    Were you seriously injured?
You shouldn´t take "break a leg" too serious! ;P

Tonia is right, the weather in Germany is a "grande catastrophe", in my street there is a 10cm layer of snow and you can ice-skate on it, it´s so slick!
The parents could decide whether their kids go to school or not because of the unsafety way to school.

I love the pics of the train station, it sure looks impressive!

How was Canada? I hope you had a great time there, too! So, if you´re already international, go and come across the pond! ;)
(Sorry, I cannot stop mention it that we want to see you again :).....)

Do you already know what you´re going to do after Prairie?

Sooo, take care of yourself, Mr. Sassy Massey ;),
    many greetings from Hamburg,
    Kirsten*

  6. KEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVIIIIIIIIIIIN! ;)
    Are you alright???

Your german fans are starving for news or just a sign of life!!! ;)

The last thing you wrote was that you were injured! I hope everything is okay!!!

It´s nearly a year ago that you were over here the first time as Tarzan..... :))
    Time flies...

Julschi and I tried to win the lottery to come over but we didn´t have much luck.... ;))
    *I wonder why?!* :P

All the best from grey and rainy Hamburg,
    Kirsten*

    Kevin...
Thanks so much for the amazing show in Omaha! I'm going through a tough time with PT and stuff, and it really made my night (my whole week actually!). I was in one of the top rows, but it didn't matter...the show was still amazing! My grandma just won 3rd row tickets for the show in Sioux Falls, SD, and of course I'll be there!!

    Thanks again..
