I just got back from another road trip to see two good buddies of mine, one I met last year on Little House on the Prairie and the other I went to college with @ UNC.

I drove down to Philadelphia to see the first buddy in the tour of GREASE! Now, I have to admit I was not expecting to be blown out of the water by the production since I have done over 500 performances of it myself in Europe and tend to go catatonic at the first trumpet blasts of "Grease is the Word"...BUT....I have to say, I was really impressed, and mostly by my friend's performance. He really was tremendous in the show, and THAT's saying something for a performance in Grease! He really stood out.

Then it was on to Baltimore where my friend and his new wife have a wonderful "row house" in the heart of the city. We went to a art festival downtown with tons of free exhibits and DELICIOUS food. We actually sat through an hour talk on the history of "row houses"....again, was not expecting much but it was QUITE fascinating. Ended the evening with a rooftop BBQ. My dessert was a hot fudge sunday on my drive back to NYC tonight.

While I am exhausted, it was well worth the trips to spend time with the people you care about. I'm trying to practice what I preach, "invest in people, not in things".

  1. Your words are really beautiful and correspond to the truth so much.
Real friendships are unaffordable! So it is very clever to invest in it! :)
Things you can buy up to infinity!

Your enterprises sound like many fun and joy - both of them - your visit at Grease and the visit of an art festival. Such meetings with friends you should enjoy really very much. You can summon up much strength from these meetings and primarily from the memories in worse or stressful times!

    Have a nice sunday!

  2. Wow, that sounds really great. I can imagine that it's nice to see a good friend on stage and to enjoy it as you did. So, you were in Europe with Grease? We all hope, you will come to Europe again! :)
Thank you for sharing your impressions with us.
    Kind regards,

By the way: Roof top BBQ- that remembers me of my weeks in Spain, where sometimes I use to spend time to vistit a spanish course- roof top BBQs over the roofs of Conil (Andalusia) is a kind of institution of the school there

  5. Oooo, I'd love to go to Spain, Franka! That is definitely next on my list.

Yep, over in Germany back in 2002-2003...and did Grease MANY times. I think, in total, I was there 10 months. It was a great way to get to know Germany well.

    Happy Monday :)

  7. not bad :-) 500 Shows is a lot!

actually, I have seen a Grease tournee in Hamburg Schauspielhaus years ago, it was the same production, but with totally other people and completely in English. I just love the show.

Tomorrow I will be in Tarzan (again *g*)

    Hasta luego,

    Franka

  10. Everything what I can write about Spain, would be: wonderful beaches, wonderful child-disco. :P
It has been 16 years meanwhile when I was in Spain the last time. ;)

I think all the things are very correct to Germany -- except the sunshine all the year perhaps! ;)
